WHAT IS BILTONG?

Biltong is the term that describes air dried beef in South Africa. The word is a combination of two old Dutch words - Bil and Tong. Bil means meat or rump. Tong means strip, thereby meaning strip of meat.  The strips of raw meat are marinated in vinegar and spices overnight and then hanged in circulating air for 5 to 10 days. The end result is delicious cured pieces of meat that is edible and has a long, stable shelf life.

WHAT DOES BILTONG TASTE LIKE?

Biltong tastes like a well-seasoned steak. It's dried beef in its purest form. The best traditional biltong recipes will have coriander as a predominant flavour. However, there are different flavours to choose from such as cumin, chilli, spicy or traditional flavour. You can also choose the type of biltong cuts you would prefer with options like lean, fatty, chilli bites. Some people like the biltong to still be a bit soft while others prefer dry cuts.
